It was a very hot summer afternoon in January when 12 people gathered for a family portrait session in Parramatta Park.
Wrangling such a large group is never easy, and it always helps to have a second photographer on hand to help and second shoot. The younger girls were already welcoming the wide open spaces of the park as soon as they arrived, laughing and running all over the place which is great for my style of candid photography.
It’s important to allow kids to let off steam when doing portraits, you can see the point where attention starts to wane and it’s then that I let them go crazy for a bit (which is also the perfect time to get candid shots of the adults too).
The brief for this shoot was to get the whole group and smaller family groups. We only had 2 hours, but the great thing about Parramatta Park is that there is a good variation of backdrops in a relatively small area.
The Puglisi family were great fun and lovely to shoot – I hope to see them back soon for individual family shots.
